Kris Carrillo is an honorary alumni of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Kris is constantly pushing his artistic limits with an extremely precise skillset and an imaginative curiosity. Although his concentration is in drawing and painting, Kris has been exploring and incorporating collage into his practice with the intention to draw a deeper response from his viewers. “For me, art happens when I make connections between and among concepts that are obvious, but carry multi-dimensional meanings. These concepts include social issues, politics, popular culture, and history. I aim to purvey a visual analysis through a specific aesthetic that utilizes flat shapes of color, line quality, and space to highlight my subjects and create the illusion of depth. I want my work to resonate with the audience on an emotional level and I find success in my pieces that evoke a sense of nostalgia.”
